SOFCA Frailcare Centre

The Hermanus Frail Care Center was established in 1987 as a non-profit organization to offer 24-hour live in residential care for the elderly & frail residents of Hermanus and surrounding areas.

Today, SOCA has residents from all areas of South Africa, from all races and faiths.

SOFCA is centrally situated in the picturesque town of Hermanus in the Western Cape. We are ideally located within close proximity to both the Hermanus Provincial Hospital, Medi-Clinic as well as the Hermanus Day Hospital. We are 1 hour from Cape Town & Bredasdorp, 45 minutes from Somerset West and only 30 minutes from Caledon.

SOFCA offers our residents a safe, caring home which includes comfortable accommodation, three healthy meals a day, tea/coffee & afternoon treats, which the residents and families can enjoy in our beautiful gardens. We also have a full laundry service, 24-hour professional nursing care, and a weekly program of activities including spiritual counselling, musical entertainment, visits by volunteers, hairdressing service and feet & nail care.

Since 2016 SOFCA has undergone major upgrades which have been made possible by the generous support of the Department of Social Development, donations from various Trusts & Bequests and continuous in-house fundraising. We still strive to complete further major projects such as the replacement of the roof, ceiling insulation & new flooring. In late 2025 we will be embarking on a long-awaited major project to install solar panels.

SOFCA is administered by a Board who are elected from among the members of the society. Daily operations are managed by the Management Committee which includes the General Manager, Nursing Manager and Administration Manager. Departmental Supervisors and their staff tirelessly maintain a high standard of food preparation, housekeeping and general maintenance on a daily basis. The nursing staff offer outstanding care to the residents every need.
